Call to Action
PLEASE take the time to comment on the proposed FDA Docket Number FDA-2021-N-0553-0005, FDA draft guidance: Evaluating the Public Health Importance of Food Allergens Other Than the Major Food Allergens Listed in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act: Guidance for FDA Staff and Stakeholders before the deadline of August 17th.
Read the Draft GuidanceWhat is Happening
To state in the most simple of ways, this draft guidance document proposes two things that concern us:
- It would prevent the gluten-free community from future petitions to add barley and rye under FALCPA (Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act) standards.
AND
- It would limit its review of citizen petitions to only foods causing IgE mediated reactions (food allergies vs. celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity which affect different branches of the immune system).
What YOU Can Do
Comment TODAY on how this would impact you and/or your loved ones. Tell your story about how toxic gluten is to you. Let the FDA know that celiac disease should be considered as important as common food allergies.
Additionally, we have a right to request changes in the future! Share this with friends and family and ask them to comment as well. WE NEED TO BE HEARD! The deadline for comments is August 17, 2022.
