Finding a dietitian

Katarina Mollo MEd, RDN, LDN
Q: My daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease last May. We removed all gluten from her diet, but would like to see a dietitian to help us. How can we find a dietitian that is knowledgeable about celiac disease?

Seeing a dietitian skilled in celiac disease and the gluten-free diet is an integral part of getting started on the gluten-free diet and on track to recovery. A dietitian can help you navigate the many pitfalls of the gluten-free diet, as well as help you develop a nutritionally balanced diet to support good health.

Gluten-Free Watchdog Tricia Thompson, who is a registered dietitian, has a state-by-state list of dietitians knowledgeable in celiac disease. You can check it out on her Gluten-Free Dietitian website here: Dietitians Providing Counseling Services to Persons with Celiac Disease.

You can also go The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics find an expert page, and search for a dietitian near you using your zip code. Select “search by expertise” and check “gluten intolerance,” then enter your zip code and it will bring up a list of dietitians near you.

Another way is to contact a celiac center near you for dietitian services, check out this list of celiac centers:
